As part of MTANZ's strategic objective to build strong relationships across the political spectrum, MTANZ attended the Labour Party Business Conference to advocate for a stable and predictable policy environment for the medical technology sector.

MTANZ visited Aroa Biosurgery, joined by Hon Barbara Edmonds, to learn more about the company's innovative medical technologies and its contribution to New Zealand's economy. The visit showcased Aroa's global success and commitment to developing future Kiwi talent to the Labour Party.

BusinessNZ CEO Dinner

MTANZ attended the BusinessNZ CEO Dinner with Minister Simeon Brown and Minister James Meagher, where the Ministers highlighted the importance of industry providing real-world insights and intelligence to support informed policy decisions. The discussion reinforced MTANZ's role in bringing member feedback and sector expertise to government to help drive meaningful change in medical technology policy and procurement.

Medical Device Management Transition Meeting

The MTANZ Board met with Pharmac CEO Natalie McMurtry and Health New Zealand National Director Planning, Funding and Outcomes Jason Power to discuss industry engagement and consultation during the Medical Device Management Transition. The meeting marked an important step in establishing collaboration between industry and health sector leaders under the new model.

Arthrex New Zealand Opens ArthroLab™ Surgical Training Facility

 Arthrex New Zealand has opened ArthroLab™, New Zealand's first privately owned cadaveric surgical skills training facility, expanding access to advanced orthopaedic education locally. The facility supports surgeons, registrars, and nurses to develop practical skills, reduce reliance on overseas training, and advance improved patient outcomes through medical technology innovation.

Medical Device Procurement Announcement

MTANZ CEO Cushla Smyth attended the Government's media announcement with Hon David Seymour, Deputy Prime Minister and Hon Simeon Brown, Minister of Health on the joint medical device procurement model between Pharmac and Health New Zealand, providing greater clarity for the health sector and industry.

MTANZ CEO Cushla Smyth and Board Chair Andrew Hickey attended a ministerial briefing alongside the Chairs of Health NZ and Pharmac to announce the Government's decision for Health New Zealand  and Pharmac to share responsibility for medical device procurement.

Cushla Smyth met with Hon. David Seymour to discuss the issues facing the medical device industry. While definitive answers may still be a way off, Minister Seymour is cognisant of the issues and is committed to coming to a pragmatic solution that focuses on patient outcomes and a sustainable medical device ecosystem.

BusinessNZ Health Forum
MTANZ CEO Cushla Smyth attended and met with the Minister of Health, Hon. Simeon Brown. During her interaction, she had the opportunity to inform him about some of the pressing issues currently facing the medical device industry. Cushla is pleased to report that Minister Brown was open and receptive to learning more about these challenges.

11th Business Ethics for SMEs Forum, Peru
Cushla Smyth presented on 'Promoting Enterprise Integrity in Public Procurement through Collective Action'. She discussed how MTANZ has worked to enhance integrity and ethical business practices in the NZ health sector by applying recommendations from APEC and OECD publications.
